Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) has received approximately one million barrels of Bonga crude oil as part of efforts to revive and stabilize refinery operations, the company announced on Tuesday.
The cargo arrived aboard the MT Cap Felix and was purchased from Shell through TOR’s tolling partner, Triangle Commodities Trading (TCT), under an arrangement aimed at supporting the refinery’s operational recovery and strengthening Ghana’s fuel supply chain.
According to TOR management, the latest crude shipment represents another major step in the refinery’s ongoing revitalization programme, which seeks to improve national energy security and reduce the country’s reliance on imported refined petroleum products.
Bonga crude, a Nigerian low-sulphur grade known for its high refining yields, is expected to produce significant quantities of petroleum products including liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), gasoline, diesel, kerosene, aviation turbine kerosene (ATK), and fuel oil for both domestic consumption and regional distribution.
TOR said the development aligns with broader efforts to restore stable refining activities at the state-owned refinery, which has faced operational and financial challenges in recent years.
Management expressed appreciation to the Government of Ghana, regulatory bodies, financial institutions, and industry stakeholders for their continued support toward the refinery’s recovery and transformation agenda.
The refinery also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, operational efficiency, environmental responsibility, and its long-term vision of becoming a commercially sustainable energy hub serving Ghana and the wider West African market.
TOR indicated that it would continue to update stakeholders and the public as refinery operations progress.
