The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested three individuals in Bolgatanga in connection with an alleged human trafficking and sexual exploitation network operating in the Gbane mining community in the Talensi District.
The suspects, identified as Peace Agbede, Favour Sunday Udo and Faith Levy, are accused of recruiting young women under false pretences and forcing them into prostitution after transporting them from Nigeria to Ghana.
According to a police statement, preliminary investigations indicate that one of the suspects, Peace Agbede, allegedly lured a victim from Nigeria with promises of helping her break into the Ghanaian movie industry, citing her physical appearance as an advantage.
The victim reportedly agreed and travelled with her, but upon arrival in Ghana, she was instead taken to the Gbane mining area where she was allegedly coerced into commercial sex work.
The police further disclosed that the victim was compelled to pay a daily sum of GH₡400 to her alleged trafficker.
Investigations also revealed that the victim later became pregnant and delivered a baby on June 26, 2026.
Shockingly, the statement indicated that suspects Agbede and Udo later approached the victim and allegedly attempted to convince her to sell the newborn baby for GH₡20,000 to an interested buyer.
During a search of one of the suspects’ rooms, police reportedly found six sales record books bearing various names, along with 265 unused condoms, which are now part of ongoing investigations.
Authorities also confirmed the rescue of four additional female victims aged between 18 and 20 years, believed to have been trapped in similar circumstances.
The suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before court as investigations continue into the wider trafficking network.
