A travel and tour agent has been remanded into lawful custody after allegedly using a WhatsApp group to collect GH¢107,000 from a civil servant and his relatives with promises of securing them jobs in Ghana’s security services.

Clement Osei-Wusu is accused of administering a WhatsApp platform called “Limited Job Opportunities”, where advertisements for recruitment into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), Ghana Police Service (GPS), Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) and Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) were allegedly posted.

He has been charged with defrauding by false pretences and pleaded not guilty when he appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.

The court, presided over by Joseph Y. Kunsong, remanded him into custody and adjourned the case to September 22, 2026.

According to the prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Raymond Ackom, the complainant, a civil servant from the Bono Region, joined the WhatsApp group in October 2025 after seeing recruitment-related advertisements.

The prosecution said the complainant’s cousin, Gbenyare Yahaya, who was also a member of the platform, contacted Osei-Wusu for further information and subsequently brought the alleged recruitment opportunity to the complainant’s attention.

Osei-Wusu allegedly quoted GH¢15,000 for a slot into the GRA and GH¢19,000 for recruitment into the GAF and other security services.

On October 17, 2025, the complainant and Yahaya reportedly visited the accused’s office at Weija SCC, where they allegedly paid for two GAF recruitment slots.

The prosecution said Osei-Wusu subsequently claimed that he also had slots available for the GIS and GPS, prompting the complainant to make further payments.

On December 24, 2025, the complainant allegedly transferred GH¢35,000 into Osei-Wusu’s Fidelity Bank account in connection with the recruitment arrangements.

The prosecution further alleged that in 2026, the complainant paid another GH¢20,000 through the accused’s Mobile Money wallet and two rural bank accounts for two purported GPS recruitment slots.

The accused allegedly demanded an additional GH¢5,000 to facilitate the transfer of the complainant’s son, who was said to be among the second batch of GAF recruits, into the first batch.

However, the prosecution said the promised recruitment opportunities did not materialise after the various payments had been made.

Osei-Wusu allegedly stopped responding to the complainant and eventually blocked his means of communication.

The complainant subsequently reported the matter to the Police on August 8, 2026, leading to the accused’s arrest.

The prosecution told the court that Osei-Wusu admitted the offence in his caution statement.

The court has since ordered him to remain in custody until September 22, when he is expected to reappear to continue proceedings.
