The Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang received a Distinguished Fellow Award from the University of Cape Coast on Friday, March 13, 2026, in recognition of her exemplary public service and unblemished record in leadership.
The award ceremony was marked by high praise from the university’s Chancellor, Sir Sam Jonah, who described Professor Opoku-Agyemang as “a rare example of integrity in Ghanaian public life.” He emphasised that her career — spanning academia and the nation’s highest offices — has remained free from scandal or controversy.
“I have spoken of her achievements and her leadership. But there is a quality that underpins all of it — integrity. Not a single scandal, not a whisper of controversy,” Sir Sam Jonah said, highlighting the Vice President’s steadfast dedication to principled governance.
The Chancellor noted that Professor Opoku-Agyemang’s service reflects true patriotism: prioritising national welfare above personal gain, convenience, or comfort. “It is unwavering honesty when honesty is costly. It is selfless dedication when dedication is exhausting,” he added.
He further pointed out that in an era where public trust in institutions is often strained, her example demonstrates that principled leadership remains possible and relevant. “Her example shines as a beacon. It reminds us that integrity is not a relic of a nobler age; it is practised here and now,” Sir Sam Jonah said.
The ceremony drew senior university officials, students, and members of the community, all celebrating the accomplishments of one of Ghana’s most respected public figures.
The award recognises not just professional achievement but also the enduring trust and admiration earned through ethical, transparent leadership — qualities that Sir Sam Jonah described as essential for inspiring confidence in public institutions.
