The Volta Regional Minister, Mr. James Gunu, has assured Colleges of Education in the region of government support to address pressing student welfare and infrastructure challenges, following a courtesy call from the Coalition of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN).
The delegation, representing Colleges of Education across the Volta Region and led by Mr. Raymond Nyator, met Mr. Gunu at the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) in Ho to formally introduce the coalition and discuss critical issues affecting teaching, learning, and student well-being.
During the meeting, the coalition highlighted inadequate infrastructure, rising pressure on academic and residential facilities, and recurring water supply problems, which continue to disrupt educational activities. Members stressed the need for closer collaboration between student bodies, institutions, and regional authorities to improve the quality of teacher education.
Mr. Gunu welcomed the engagement, commending TEIN for its proactive approach and constructive dialogue. He emphasized that education remains a cornerstone of national development and pledged his commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at enhancing learning conditions, student welfare, and youth participation in regional development.
The Regional Minister also called for sustained collaboration among government agencies, educational authorities, and civil society organizations to address infrastructural gaps and improve student services. He encouraged TEIN and other student leadership groups to remain united and proactive, noting that responsible student advocacy can significantly influence policy decisions and drive positive change.
The coalition expressed readiness to partner with the VRCC in advocacy, community engagement, and development-oriented initiatives, aiming to contribute to the socio-economic growth of the Volta Region. Mr. Gunu expressed optimism that such partnerships would deliver long-term benefits for both students and the wider regional community.
