In a powerful call for transformational leadership, Volta Regional Minister Mr. James Gunu has inaugurated all 18 Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs), charging them to steer a new era of bold, people-focused governance across the region.
The ceremony, held in Ho, was marked not just by the formal swearing-in of 15 men and 3 women into office, but by a resonant message from Mr. Gunu: local leadership must now be synonymous with measurable change, community engagement, and visionary development.
“This is not a call to maintain the status quo. It is a sacred responsibility to reinvent how leadership serves the people,” Mr. Gunu stated, challenging the newly appointed MDCEs to break away from outdated methods and drive practical solutions to pressing local challenges.
With the 2024 NDC Manifesto as their guide, the Minister underscored that the success of Ghana’s developmental goals—particularly at the grassroots—rests heavily on the capacity of these local executives to think outside the box. He emphasized that stagnation in areas such as infrastructure, youth employment, and environmental protection can no longer be tolerated.
“Talk to farmers, sit with traders, engage the youth—leadership today means presence, empathy, and action,” he declared.
Mr. Gunu also urged the MDCEs to tap into Volta Region’s untapped potential in eco-tourism, agribusiness, and digital innovation. He encouraged creative resource mobilisation, enhanced internally generated funds (IGF), and strategic collaborations to unlock long-term development.
Highlighting the urgency of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), he called on the executives to ensure that every development cedi spent yields visible impact—whether in schools, clinics, or roads.
Volta Regional Coordinating Council Chief Director, Mr. Augustus Awity, echoed these sentiments, warning the appointees that the true test of leadership begins at the district level. “The public is watching. The trust of the people is earned in how you listen, serve, and deliver,” he said.
On behalf of the new executives, Mr. Stephen Adom, Ho Municipal Chief Executive, expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC for the appointments, promising dedicated service to both party and country.
The ceremony was witnessed by former MDCEs, traditional authorities, regional officials, and family members, symbolising a united front for a renewed journey in local governance.
As they assume their posts, the new MDCEs carry the weight of high expectations—not only to administer, but to transform their districts with integrity, innovation, and impact.
