The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, together with Akonta Mining Company Limited and another accused person, have filed an application at the High Court in Accra seeking to delay judgment in an ongoing criminal case.
The application, filed at the Criminal Division of the High Court, is asking the court to defer the delivery of its ruling for a reasonable period to allow newly engaged legal counsel adequate time to obtain and review the certified records of proceedings and other case documents.
According to the motion, the applicants argue that access to the full court record is necessary for their lawyers to prepare comprehensive written submissions in response to the proceedings before the court.
The request is being made on behalf of Bernard Antwi Boasiako and Akonta Mining Company Limited, with legal representation led by lawyer Samuel Atta Akyea.
Court filings indicate that the Republic is the respondent in the case, while Bernard Antwi Boasiako, Kwame Antwi, and Akonta Mining Company Limited are the accused persons.
The application, filed on June 23, 2026, is expected to be heard on a date to be set by the court, ahead of a scheduled judgment on July 3.
The Registrar of the High Court’s Criminal Division and the Office of the Attorney-General have both been served with the motion as required.
The court is expected to determine whether to grant the request for a deferral or proceed with delivering judgment as scheduled.
