The government has nominated Ebi Bright, the 2024 Parliamentary Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for Tema Central, as the new Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) in the Greater Accra Region.
Her nomination, while signaling a significant political move, has stirred dissent among some residents in the metropolis who have voiced strong opposition to the decision.
Ebi Bright’s political background and recent parliamentary bid have positioned her as a prominent figure within the NDC, and her nomination is seen as both strategic and symbolic. However, sections of the Tema community are expressing reservations, with protest actions highlighting concerns over inclusivity and representation.
In a related development, Ludwig Totimeh has been named the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Tema West. Both appointments fall under the constitutional provisions of Article 243 of the 1992 Constitution and the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended by the Local Governance (Amendment) Act of 2017.
The nominations are pending approval by their respective local assemblies, a process that will determine the final confirmation of these new leadership roles.
