The Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation has paid glowing tribute to its fallen minister, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, whose life was cut short in the recent military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region.
At a solemn Night of Memories and Reflections on Saturday, August 9, Chief Director Suweibah Adam hailed the late minister as a rare example of discipline, hard work, and humility in public service.
“Punctuality was his trademark,” she noted, recalling his habit of arriving at the office before 7:30 a.m. to clear official emails and tackle urgent matters. “He never appeared tired, despite juggling responsibilities at the Ministry, in Parliament, and at the Presidency.”
Colleagues remembered him as a leader who inspired young people, championed stakeholder collaboration, and helped shape key national programmes in the environment and science sectors. His approachable nature and respect for all partners, they said, were hallmarks of his leadership style.
The former minister was one of eight people who perished on Wednesday, August 6, when a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District. They were on their way to Obuasi to participate in an anti-galamsey initiative.
In keeping with Islamic tradition, Janazah prayers for Murtala Muhammed and fellow Muslim victim Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 10, at the Forecourt of the State House, followed by burial at the Military Cemetery.
The state will honour all eight victims with an inter-denominational funeral on Friday, August 15, at the Black Star Square.
