The Government of Ghana has announced that the 2026 Republic Day holiday will be officially observed on Friday, July 3, instead of its traditional date of July 1.
The declaration was made by the Ministry for the Interior in a statement informing the public of arrangements for the national observance.
Although Republic Day falls on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, the President has exercised his authority through an Executive Instrument (E.I.) to move the observance to Friday, July 3, 2026.
According to the Ministry, the decision was taken in line with the provisions of Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, 2001 (Act 601), as amended.
As a result, Friday, July 3, will be recognized and observed nationwide as a statutory public holiday.
The Ministry urged citizens, institutions and businesses across the country to take note of the revised date and observe the holiday accordingly.
Republic Day commemorates Ghana’s transition to a republic and remains one of the country’s important national observances. The shift in the holiday date is expected to provide an extended weekend for many workers and residents across the country.
