NDC Must Put More Money in Ghanaians’ Pockets to Win 2028 – Amorse Blessings

Greater Accra Regional Secretary aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Amorse Amos Blessings, has cautioned the governing party against relying solely on infrastructure projects to secure re-election in the 2028 general elections, urging it to prioritise policies that directly improve the living conditions of Ghanaians.

He said the party’s chances of retaining power would depend largely on whether citizens experienced tangible improvements in their welfare and had more money in their pockets by the time they returned to the polls.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Mr Blessings expressed confidence that the government could secure another mandate if it delivered on its promises and improved living standards.

“I’m very hopeful that by the time we get to 2028, we will have delivered such that Ghanaians will renew our mandate,” he said.

Mr Blessings argued that although road construction, school buildings and other social amenities were important measures of development, they did not automatically translate into electoral success.

He cited the NDC’s defeat in the 2016 general elections as an example, recalling that former President John Dramani Mahama was nicknamed “Commissioner General” because of the number of projects he commissioned during his administration.

“If that were the case, the NDC would have won the 2016 election,” he said.

According to him, the experience demonstrated that infrastructure development must be accompanied by policies that address the everyday economic concerns of citizens.

“What Ghanaians are looking for is that beyond the road constructions, and then the building of schools and other things and social amenities, they should also be looking at their welfare. How are they feeling in their country? What is in their pockets?” he asked.

He pointed to the Adenta-Dodowa-Somanya road project as one of the infrastructure initiatives being pursued under President John Dramani Mahama’s Big Push programme.

Mr Blessings said the project had been relaunched following changes in its funding arrangements and argued that the Big Push initiative had helped advance its implementation.

While acknowledging that the government had not resolved every challenge facing the country, he maintained that the current administration had made considerable progress compared with the conditions it inherited.

“I’m not saying that we have delivered heaven for Ghanaians. But the situation that His Excellency John Dramani Mahama’s government met, compared to what we have today, there’s vast improvement,” he said.

He maintained that the NDC’s ability to demonstrate improvements in household welfare, alongside its infrastructure record, would be crucial to convincing voters to renew the party’s mandate in 2028.
