The Concerned Youth of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Constituency have publicly appealed to former President John Dramani Mahama and the party leadership to appoint their Constituency Chairman, Nana Yaw Berimah, to the Ghana Gold Board.
At a press conference held in Sefwi Bekwai, the group emphasized that Nana Berimah’s exclusion from recent political appointments was disheartening, particularly after his pivotal role in securing a historic NDC victory in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Constituency — a seat the party reclaimed from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after two decades.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Convener Mr. Emmanuel Kyei Mensah stated that Nana Berimah’s three-decade-long dedication to the party, coupled with his deep roots in the mining sector and community, made him an ideal candidate for a strategic role on the Gold Board.
“Our chairman is not only a seasoned political organizer, but he is also a native of the mining-rich Bekwai Municipality, which hosts major mining companies like Asante Gold Corporation, Chirano Gold Mines, and Koantwi Mines. His local knowledge and industry familiarity would add immense value to the Ghana Gold Board,” Mr. Mensah asserted.
The group warned that overlooking such loyal party figures could risk demoralizing the grassroots base, particularly at a time when mobilization and motivation ahead of future elections are critical.
“Appointing Chairman Berimah would be more than a reward; it would be a reaffirmation of the NDC’s commitment to recognizing hard work, loyalty, and results-driven leadership,” Mr. Mensah said, urging the party hierarchy to reconsider and act swiftly.
They praised Nana Berimah’s leadership in revamping party structures, energizing the youth, and building momentum ahead of the 2024 general elections, which led to the party’s resurgence in a once-lost stronghold.
As the NDC prepares for governance, the youth group believes appointments to key institutions like the Ghana Gold Board should reflect grassroots contributions and sectoral competence — qualities they say their chairman embodies in full.
