In a tight electoral contest that underscored shifting momentum within the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in the Central Region, Mr. Kingsley Nana Buadu, Head of News and Current Affairs at Radio Central, emerged as the newly elected Regional Chairman—defeating incumbent David Yaboi-Tetteh by a slim margin of two votes.
Buadu’s win, secured with 18 votes against Yaboi-Tetteh’s 16, marks a significant leadership transition in the region’s media landscape. The election outcome reflects growing calls among journalists for a more dynamic, inclusive, and service-oriented Association.
Mr. Adu Gyamfi Marfo of Kingdom FM was elected Vice Chairman unopposed, while other executive roles also saw no contest—signalling a strong consensus on the new direction proposed by the incoming leadership.
In his acceptance speech, Buadu pledged to reset the GJA’s image and relevance in the region. He outlined a bold vision anchored in innovation, transparency, and expanded member participation. Among his immediate priorities are establishing a functional regional secretariat, reviving the long-abandoned GJA regional awards scheme, and introducing welfare programs tailored to meet the needs of members.
“Our Association must be more than a name. It must be felt in the lives of journalists and in the affairs of the region. I am committed to building a structure that reflects our professional values, inspires confidence, and promotes collaboration,” he said.
Buadu also announced plans to form specialized committees to decentralize operations and foster a participatory approach to leadership.
He emphasized unity, urging all members—regardless of how they voted—to support the executive team in steering the Association to greater heights.
“This is not a victory for one individual but for all journalists in the Central Region. Let’s work together to make the GJA a force for media excellence, advocacy, and growth,” he concluded.
