Former Asante-Akim South District Chief Executive, Alhaji Abdul-Karim Boakye, has outlined an ambitious grassroots mobilisation agenda as he seeks to become the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Constituency Chairman, declaring that rebuilding the party’s local structures is essential to securing victory in the 2028 general election.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the chairmanship hopeful said the NPP faces a critical moment and requires experienced leadership capable of restoring unity and energising its grassroots base.
According to him, his campaign is centred on strengthening the party’s organisational machinery to support the presidential ambition of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
“We have no agenda other than Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia’s agenda,” Mr. Boakye said, stressing that the party’s preparations for the next election must begin with effective mobilisation at the constituency and polling station levels.
The former DCE expressed confidence that his extensive experience in local governance and party organisation makes him well-suited to lead the constituency through what he described as a challenging political period.
He noted that having retired from public service and now residing permanently in the district gives him the flexibility to engage party members regularly, especially the youth, and work towards expanding the party’s support base before the 2028 polls.
Mr. Boakye also pledged to use his leadership experience to resolve internal divisions within the constituency and foster unity among party members, arguing that cohesion would be crucial to the NPP’s electoral success.
Throwing his full support behind Dr. Bawumia, he described the former Vice President as the leader with the vision to transform Ghana and urged party faithful to unite behind his presidential bid.
The aspiring chairman further highlighted his longstanding involvement in the NPP, recalling that he was among those who helped establish the party’s presence in Asante-Akim during the early years of the Fourth Republic.
He said his close working relationship with former Members of Parliament Alex Kwaku Korankye, Gifty Ohene Konadu and the current MP, Kwaku Asante Boateng, has given him valuable institutional knowledge that would help bridge the gap between the party’s founding members and its younger generation.
Mr. Boakye observed that many young supporters are unfamiliar with the history and values of the NPP, adding that his background as both a teacher and a nurse positions him to mentor and educate emerging party members on the party’s ideals.
He maintained that the future of both the NPP and Ghana depends on empowering the youth and expressed confidence that Dr. Bawumia is the right leader to guide the country forward.
