New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua has set the stage for a fresh contest for the party’s top administrative position, announcing his intention to seek re-election ahead of the party’s next internal elections.
Mr Kodua made his intentions known in a Facebook post on Sunday, July 26, where he positioned his potential re-election bid around the need to rebuild the party and restore it to power in the 2028 general elections.
“Prepared. Well-positioned. Focused. REBUILD. Together, let’s bring the NPP back to victory in 2028,” he stated.
The announcement comes as the NPP begins preparations for its internal elections, which are expected to shape the party’s leadership and strategic direction following its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Mr Kodua first assumed the position of General Secretary in 2022 after defeating the incumbent, John Boadu, at the party’s National Delegates Conference held at the Accra Sports Stadium.
He secured 2,837 votes to take over the position after Mr Boadu had served as General Secretary for four years.
Prior to his election as General Secretary, Mr Kodua served as Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), where he was involved in the implementation of programmes aimed at addressing youth unemployment.
His decision to seek another term is expected to add to the growing contest for key positions as the NPP reorganises its structures and prepares for the 2028 elections.
The party’s upcoming internal elections are likely to be closely watched as members seek leadership capable of leading the NPP’s rebuilding efforts and mounting a strong challenge in the next general election.
