A coalition of intellectual and professional groups within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has thrown its weight behind former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as the party’s most credible option to lead both the party and the country into the future.
At a press conference on Monday, the Patriotic Intellectuals of Ghana (PI-G), led by Mr Micheal Asare Appiah, popularly known as Chairman Sasa, joined forces with groups including the National Association of Tescon Patrons for Bawumia (NATEP4DMB), Tescon members and other professional bodies to formally endorse Dr Bawumia’s bid in the NPP’s flagbearer race.
The groups said their endorsement was based on Dr Bawumia’s track record in public service, particularly his eight years as Vice President, during which he demonstrated resilience, technical competence and loyalty to the party even after the 2024 electoral setback.
Chairman Sasa highlighted Dr Bawumia’s reputation for integrity, noting that he had remained free from corruption allegations and factional influence throughout his political career. He also pointed to the former Vice President’s calm leadership style, humility and accessibility as qualities that set him apart from other contenders.
According to the group, Dr Bawumia’s background in economic management and governance places him in a strong position to drive sustainable growth and deliver the transformative change the country requires. They described him as a prepared and widely accepted candidate, expressing confidence that his leadership would resonate beyond party lines.
