Infighting within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has deepened as Communications Team Member Eric Twum launched a scathing attack on former government spokesperson, Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, for publicly criticising the party’s 2024 flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Boakye-Danquah had accused Dr. Bawumia of attempting to distance himself from the Akufo-Addo administration’s shortcomings during his ongoing Thank-you Tour, during which Bawumia pointed to unpopular policies like the E-Levy, delayed reshuffles, and the IMF-linked “haircut” as factors that cost the NPP public support.
Describing Bawumia’s remarks as opportunistic and evasive, Boakye-Danquah’s comments sparked outrage among some party loyalists, including Eric Twum, who questioned his credibility and standing in the party.
“Where was Palgrave when we were working hard for this party in the trenches? It is disheartening that someone with such little history in our struggle now feels entitled to challenge the Vice President,” Twum said in an interview.
Twum further expressed regret that veteran party figure Nana Akomea even responded to Boakye-Danquah, suggesting such a rebuttal should have been left to junior party communicators.
The rift highlights growing internal tensions in the NPP as the party navigates public dissatisfaction and internal accountability ahead of the December 2024 general elections.
