The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has initiated a review into disturbances recorded during its constituency executive elections in four constituencies as part of efforts to address challenges that emerged during the internal electoral process.
The party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, said the National Steering Committee had been mandated to investigate reports of violence and disruptions in Afigya Sekyere East, Bantama, Adansi Asokwa and Asante Akyem Central.
The move follows reports of clashes and confrontations at some polling centres, particularly in the Ashanti Region, where videos circulating on social media showed heated exchanges involving party supporters and security personnel.
Some of the incidents resulted in temporary interruptions to voting activities and increased security presence at affected locations.
In an update issued on Monday, July 13, Mr Frimpong said the party was committed to ensuring that all concerns arising from the elections were properly addressed to protect the credibility of the process.
He disclosed that the constituency elections were successfully conducted in 245 out of the party’s 276 constituencies, representing an 88.7 per cent completion rate.
However, elections in 23 constituencies have been suspended due to unresolved disputes, while voting did not take place in Ningo Prampram, Atwima Mponua, Obuasi West and Trobu following last-minute challenges.
Mr Frimpong commended party members for their participation and urged stakeholders to remain calm as the party worked to resolve outstanding matters.
He said the National Secretariat would continue engagements with relevant parties to ensure a smooth conclusion of the constituency elections.
The constituency executive elections are part of the NPP’s broader restructuring programme aimed at strengthening its grassroots base and preparing the party for the 2028 general elections.
