Nana Osei-Adjei, Member of Parliament for New Juaben North and a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticized the government for what he describes as a lack of progress on the 24-hour economy policy, a key campaign promise that contributed to the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s victory in the 2024 elections.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament during debates on President John Dramani Mahama’s State of the Nation Address, Nana Osei-Adjei said the government has yet to provide tangible evidence that the policy is being implemented.
“Mr Speaker, this government promised us a twenty-four-hour economy, but in 2026, there is no clear national framework, no new industries have emerged, no employment statistics have been provided, and there is no clear budget line supporting the policy,” he stated.
The MP also questioned the government’s economic narrative, highlighting the persistent high cost of living and struggling businesses. He challenged Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Ampem Nyarko to identify banks allegedly lending at low-interest rates of 10-11 percent, stating, “We are not eating macroeconomic indicators. If there are banks lending at ten or eleven percent, the Deputy Finance Minister should tell Ghanaians which banks they are.”
Additionally, Nana Osei-Adjei criticized the government for overlooking the achievements of the previous administration, particularly in strengthening maritime security assets, and called for more accountability in presenting the status of campaign promises to the public.
