The disciplinary hearing for former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has been officially postponed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), adding a new twist to the ongoing situation surrounding the MP’s alleged misconduct.
Safo was initially scheduled to appear before the NPP’s Disciplinary Committee on Monday, April 7, 2025, following allegations of breaching party directives, particularly making public statements that were seen as potentially divisive within the party. However, a letter from the party, issued on Sunday, April 6, confirmed that the hearing would not take place as planned.
The letter, which was signed by the committee, cited “emerging scheduling adjustments and internal considerations” as the primary reasons for the delay. The party did not provide further details about the nature of these considerations, leaving room for speculation about internal discussions and preparations within the party.
“We wish to notify you that the hearing scheduled for Monday, April 7, 2025, has been formally postponed,” the letter read, further assuring Safo and the public that the matter would be revisited at a later date.
While a new hearing date has not yet been set, this postponement signals ongoing challenges for the NPP as it seeks to address internal party discipline in the lead-up to critical political activities. The delay also raises questions about how the party will handle the Safo case, especially as the NPP looks to solidify its unity ahead of upcoming elections.
The decision to postpone the hearing may also reflect broader political dynamics at play within the party, with some speculating that the party may be weighing its options carefully as it deals with high-profile members and their actions.
