NPP Receives 10 Petitions Against Ken Agyapong as Disciplinary Process Begins

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has confirmed receiving ten separate petitions filed against former Assin Central MP and presidential aspirant, Ken Agyapong, following his recent public comments about the party.

The party’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagba, disclosed this on TV3’s *Midday Live* on Friday, June 26, 2026, adding that the petitions have been forwarded to the appropriate disciplinary structures for review.

According to him, the NPP’s disciplinary committee will assess the complaints to determine whether there are sufficient grounds for any action, and subsequently make recommendations to the party leadership where necessary.

“Any petition of that nature will require that disciplinary action be considered, and I think that is where the matter currently stands. The disciplinary committee will examine the petitions to determine whether there is any basis for disciplinary action and, if so, recommend the appropriate sanctions,” he explained.

Mr. Ahiagba dismissed suggestions that the number of petitions reflects internal panic or surprise within the party, stressing that filing petitions is a normal part of the NPP’s internal democratic process.

“There cannot be any surprise. A petition can be filed by anybody, at any time, against anyone in the party, including myself,” he said, noting that the focus should remain on due process rather than numbers.

He added that whether one petition or ten are filed, what matters is that the party’s constitutional procedures are properly followed.

Addressing claims that the petitions were triggered by Ken Agyapong’s criticism of party leadership, Mr. Ahiagba rejected any suggestion of victimisation, insisting instead that the issue stemmed from what some members considered inaccurate public statements.

He argued that Agyapong’s comments amounted to misinformation rather than legitimate internal criticism, prompting party communicators to respond with clarifications across various media platforms.

“As far as I was concerned, correcting the misinformation was sufficient,” he said, adding that some members nevertheless felt the comments constituted anti-party conduct and chose to trigger formal disciplinary processes.

Mr. Ahiagba further emphasised that the NPP Constitution obliges all members to act in ways that protect and promote the image of the party, and that no individual is exempt from those rules.

He expressed hope that the disciplinary process would ultimately reinforce internal discipline and unity within the party.

“I hope whatever decision is reached will send a clear signal that nobody in the NPP is above the law. We are all equal before the party’s constitution,” he stated.
