Oti Regional Minister, Mr. John Kwadwo Gyapong, has called for a renewed sense of purpose and leadership among Presiding Members of the region’s Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs), as he met with them to strengthen collaboration and address governance bottlenecks.
The meeting, which brought together presiding members from across the region, focused on enhancing cooperation with their respective Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) to improve local governance and accelerate development.
Minister Gyapong did not mince words as he urged the local leaders to lead with vision, integrity, and independence, stating that underperformance in some assemblies was largely due to weak, non-assertive leadership. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing the needs of constituents over politics and called on the presiding members to strictly uphold their constitutional responsibilities.
The presiding members, in turn, reaffirmed their commitment to productive collaboration but raised critical concerns—chief among them being the lack of essential logistics to effectively discharge their duties. They also appealed for the Minister’s support in expediting the completion of key infrastructure projects such as roads and health facilities, many of which remain stalled since their initiation under the previous administration.
Attendees included representatives from all eight assemblies in the region, such as Mr. Rockson Okru (Krachi East), Mr. Andrews Jacuith (Jasikan-Buem), and Mr. Edward Yilengne (Nkwanta South), among others.
The engagement highlighted the urgent need for enhanced accountability, resource mobilization, and stronger synergy between regional and local leadership in order to drive forward the development agenda of the Oti Region.
