The Atebubu-Amantin Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bono East Region, Mr Musah Shaibu, has called for stronger ethnic tolerance and political cooperation among communities in the area as a pathway to sustained peace and development.
He said peaceful coexistence among the diverse ethnic groups in the municipality remains essential for progress, warning that violence and lawlessness could derail development efforts and destabilise the area.
Mr Shaibu made the appeal when he addressed the 2026 edition of the Atebubu “Sala” festival, organised by the Atebubu Zongo community to celebrate culture and strengthen communal bonds.
According to him, despite differences in ethnicity and political affiliation, residents share a common destiny and must work together to promote unity and national development.
“We must be advocates for peace because we cannot live and make progress in an environment of disunity,” he said.
He further urged residents to respect each other’s cultural values and traditions, describing diversity as a strength that should be harnessed for development rather than division.
Mr Shaibu also used the occasion to appeal to government to address ongoing power supply challenges in the area, noting that frequent outages were affecting households and disrupting local businesses.
The festival brought together a wide range of ethnic groups, including Fulani, Bisa, Mossi, Dagomba, Sissala, Mamprusi, Konkomba, Gonja, and Dagaaba communities, who showcased their cultural heritage through music, dance, and traditional displays.
The annual celebration is aimed at promoting cultural understanding, strengthening unity, and fostering peaceful coexistence among the various communities in Atebubu-Amantin.
