The Ghana High Commission in Pretoria has advised Ghanaians living in South Africa to take extra safety precautions ahead of planned demonstrations linked to immigration concerns.
The warning follows reports and circulating videos of xenophobic incidents targeting foreign nationals, including Ghanaians, in parts of the country.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, April 28, the Mission said it was closely monitoring developments as a group identified as the March Organisation prepares to march to the Presidency to present grievances.
On behalf of the High Commissioner, Benjamin Anani Quashie, the Mission urged Ghanaian nationals to remain vigilant and prioritise their personal safety during the period of heightened tension.
It specifically advised shop owners within the Ghanaian community to close their businesses for the day and avoid locations where demonstrations are expected to take place.
The statement further cautioned Ghanaians against participating in public gatherings that could potentially escalate into confrontations.
It also encouraged citizens to maintain a low profile in both physical and online spaces, warning against sharing content that could be interpreted as inflammatory.
The High Commission assured the community that it is monitoring the situation and will issue further updates as necessary to keep nationals informed.
