Farmers in Welembelle and surrounding communities have been urged not to abandon farming despite current economic difficulties affecting the sector.
Speaking during a thank-you tour in the area, Johnson Asiedu Nketia acknowledged concerns over the high cost of farm inputs and low prices for produce but assured residents that the situation was temporary.
According to him, the government is introducing measures to improve profitability in the agricultural sector, including the establishment of mechanisation centres to make farming services more affordable.
“We are aware of the difficulties you are going through. Do not let this discourage you from farming in the next season,” he said.
Johnson Asiedu Nketia said efforts were also underway to improve access to agricultural inputs and reduce costs for farmers.
During the engagement, traditional leaders reminded the delegation about campaign promises made to the community, including roads and other development projects.
In response, he assured residents that all abandoned projects funded with public resources would be completed for the benefit of the people.
The Member of Parliament for the constituency, Issah Mohammed Bataklia, said development in the area had been driven by long-term investments in education, healthcare and infrastructure.
He pointed to projects such as the Tumu Training College and improvements in maternal healthcare as examples of progress in the municipality.
Charles Lwanga Puozuing also encouraged young people to take advantage of government agriculture programmes such as Feed Ghana and Akoko Nkitinkiti to create jobs and improve livelihoods.
The visit formed part of efforts by the National Democratic Congress leadership to assess progress on campaign commitments and gather feedback from grassroots communities.
